Currently DSL is available to many areas in Monterey County. Current cities include Carmel, Carmel Valley, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Seaside, Marina, Sand City, Salinas, Prunedale & King City. Standard install time is currently about one to two weeks from the time the dsl order is placed.

IMPORTANT: In order to sign up for DSL, you must meet the following system requirements (if you're missing anything now, then you must fulfill the requirements before your installation takes place):

  • an IBM-compatible PC running Windows 95, 98x, NT, 2000 and XP are but NOT 3.1
    OR a Macintosh running MacOS 7.5 or higher
    an ethernet card, already installed in your computer
  • a router if you plan to have several computers sharing the DSL connection
  • If you do not understand any of these requirements, please call us at 831-642-6100
  • Agree to the Terms of Service listed at the bottom of the page
  • A valid telephone line with service through Pacific Bell / SBC which has been installed and has had dial tone for more than 2 weeks, this line must reside at the same physical address you intend to have DSL. This telephone line must also be completely free of all optional telephone service components such as Variable Call Forwarding, Centrex, Multiple Line Appearance, Hunt Groups and any other business services which may define the line as anything but a standard voice telephone line. We suggest using a fax line for the installation telephone number, you may also use a plain voice line.
  • Also the phone line you are having DSL installed on should be close to the computers that will be connected to it.
  • It is VERY important that you read all of the following information and installation instructions to make your DSL installation go as easy as possible. Failure to correctly read the below information can cause you to have an unpleasant experience with your DSL installation and Mbay does not want that to happen.

Type of Service

All DSL services include a single static public IP address, 3 email boxes, and regular dialup account, in addition to any other services you currently subscribe to from Monterey Bay Internet. The distinguishing feature of IDSL is the fact that it reaches to areas which ADSL cannot, with a range of about 7 miles instead of ADSL's approximate 3 mile range, and it is not offered by Pacific Bell or ISPs which use Pacific Bell for DSL. All ADSL lines are shared lines (are DSL and phone lines combined in one).

All installation fees are due and payable on the date of actual installation/completion of installation. Customers must be prepared to receive a bill due immediately for the cost of installation and the first months services upon completion of the installation.

All DSL lines come with 1 static IP address. Additional IP's are offered in blocks for an additional charge.

Inside Wiring

Inside wiring is free as long as the distance of the wiring is less than 50 feet from the MPOE (minimum point of entry, which is the main box for your phone line(s), usually located outside the building or in some kind of "phone closet" on the ground floor). The labor cost for inside wiring over 50 feet from the MPOE is $40.00 per hour.


Installation Information

If you have special instructions relevant to installation, billing or just questions please include them below:

Terms of Service: Minimum 12 month contract. Early termination results in a disconnect and equipment fee of $150.00. Orders may be canceled free of charge up until the point of the line circuit being installed at the desired location. Moving to a new location is possible for a relocation fee of $50.00 plus any install fees if an installation tech is required to go on-site. Speed upgrades to existing DSL contracts are also possible for a fee of $100.00. All DSL lines are subject to an initial installation and equipment fee. ADSL customers that select the self install kit who end up needing a technician to finish the installation will be subject to a $150.00 fee.
