The demands of worshiping God and its
consequences
Action
of God upon us
I intend to show in this document that
when we worship God sincerely, we must also have an unconditional trust in his
loving care and action upon us. We'll see also how this action of God upon us
might be, in the next document.
Glory of God
God demands our worship and love; he
created us with this purpose, that we recognize his supremacy and give him
glory. God's first commandment and the Christian's most fundamental
obligation is to love and worship God, and look
for his glory. This was also the most important example and teaching of Jesus.
To worship God is to recognize his supreme
dominion in us and in the whole creation, For
yours is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, for ever and ever.
The worshiping of God, a radical
attitude
Worship is a radical attitude of
intelligent beings, the recognition of the total dependence on him; and this,
as a consequence of his universal dominion over everything he has created. In
fact, everything that exists is by him, and he deserves to be glorified by all
created beings.
I used to tell the Lord every day in my morning prayers: "Good Lord, the only thing which counts, in conclusion, is your glory, not us." I take each of these words literally; there is only one thing which counts overall, the glory of God; the rest is worth nothing. (You may see the whole prayer here.
The true worshiping of God, with mind and
deeds, means that we surrender thoroughly to him, recognizing his supreme Being, and that we accept his will unconditionally.
This humble attitude of submission to his will included in worship, has a sign
and some consequences.
