Prayer "Our Father"
"Paulinity"
versus Christianity - "Idolaters" of the Bible - Jesus' dedication to
God.
Jesus' life was a life of prayer.
As a devout Israelite and member of a faithful Jewish family, the life of Jesus
was basically a life of prayer. This includes the daily worship and praise of
Yahweh with the Psalms and other prayers or hymns, and the continuous
thanksgiving to God. So, it was a life of worship, praise and thanksgiving to
Yahweh.
A way of looking at the inner Jesus
A reflection on his prayer Our Father
is a powerful way of looking at the inner Jesus. There is the possibility that
Jesus didn't say the whole prayer, and that the text we have received was a
composition of the disciples; but it seems to me, that in any case, this prayer
expresses the mind and heart of Jesus. I think that we know Jesus very well
through this prayer.
But before we go to the petitions, I have
something to say.
"Paulinity"
versus Christianity
I looked at the Lord's Prayer in Barnes
Notes, one of the most famous commentaries of the New Testament, and I
realized that he dedicates a few lines to the whole Our Father, while
there are sometimes endless commentaries on one word of Paul's letters.
This is just one example of what has
happened to Christianity, a religion based more on Paul's teachings than on
Jesus' life and teachings; a kind of "Paulinity"
versus Christianity. This is deplorable. Early Judeo Christians didn't even
know Paul or his teachings, and some of them openly disagreed with him; they
were true followers of Jesus, but they didn't adhere to Paul's teachings,
neither did they care what was he was teaching in Macedonia, Greece or in Asia
(Ephesus, Galatia, Antiochia).
