The pain of changing the image of Jesus
I understand that some of you are hurt
with my page "Christianity..." Before you were hurt, I also
was deeply hurt, when I was compelled to accept that I had to revise the
cherished beliefs of all my life.
I have a prayer titled Prayer for
openness to new beliefs, in which I say that this "is a difficult journey,
but I am ready before hand to accept what you tell me is the Truth. For we can do nothing against
the truth, but for the truth (2 Corinthians 13.8)." It was not
easy, but it was a step of courage and full confidence that God wouldn't let me
be lost, without hope and without him. And this is what counts. (You may see
the whole prayer here.)
I had to write new prayers to be able to
communicate with God; they are at the end of the directory. I call them
"dynamic prayers" because they are oriented to take an attitude or
action.
Faith in Jesus
I can not deny how painful and hard it was
for me to "adjust" my beliefs regarding the person of Jesus, but I
didn't have any other alternative. I told myself: "You can not continue
believing the same, because that is untrue; it is fantasy, fabrication."
It was very sad, but I had to accept the facts; some of my older beliefs were
imagination, not reality.
I had to imagine a "new" Jesus,
according to the facts. Fortunately I found sufficient "basis" to
believe that the glorified Jesus is the "Man" exalted by God. (For a
clearer understanding of the lordship of
Jesus, click here.) I say "basis," not proof, because
to believe in the glorified Jesus is a tenet of faith, not a proven truth. When
I believe that Jesus is the Prototype of the new creation, this is a
belief of faith, this is Christian faith.
