What being a Christian means, in simple terms - Part 2

Jesus' dedication to God - Worshiping is the same in all traditions.

A deep insight into Jesus shows that he was a person thoroughly dedicated to God. His prayer, Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come (Luke 11.2), confirms that assertion and shows his devotion to God. This was not an improvised prayer; it was his daily prayer from his childhood, and what he had on his mind and heart all his life.

Jesus lived in a constant and zealous search for the glory of God, longing ardently for his kingdom. He was the "Servant of Yahveh," and people around identified him as such (Matthew 12.18; Is 42.1).

Jesus' living experience of God was simple, and free from those preconceived ideas that tradition has created through centuries. These premises, instead of helping the understanding of God, obscure his knowledge, as well as that of Jesus.

Essential attitude of a Christian

Thus, the essential attitude of a follower of Jesus is a life of dedication to God, looking for his glory and his will. A Christian, as a disciple of Jesus, should be as he was, dedicated to God. The essence of being a Christian is, in my opinion, a thorough dedication to God.

It is regrettable that in tradition the emphasis has been put on dogmas, and interpretations of the Bible, instead of this simple approach of dedication to God. Jesus' life was a simple and constant homage to the Creator. We might quote John saying, I always do those things that please him (John 8.29).
