Globalization and religion. Part 2

Religions opened up

This phenomenon of globalization makes all religions a common subject of news in all newspapers of the world, in all channels of television, and in the internet. Since September 11, the dissemination of this information has greatly increased in the United States, mainly about Islam and Christianity.

All media give religious information as we have never seen before; as an example, let us just remember the scandal of the clerics of the Roman Catholic Church. Religious information by media opened up the religions of the world, starting with Christianity and Islam. Besides this, you may find in the internet any kind of information you want about religion in general, or about any particular religion.

Protecting "walls" of religion

For centuries, religions as Islam, Judaism and Christianity, have been protected from inside, by the "walls" of their own cohesion and integration; but if these "walls" start falling apart because they are opened up for discussion, then their strength and cohesion starts disintegrating. This is what is happening now, I think.

In this avalanche of information there is a kind of "battle," in which the strongest wins. Each religion tries to protect itself and remain unchanged, but the information that comes from all sides and by all means, exposes all of them in an equal plane.

This information shows the strengths and weakness of the traditional religions, tells their history, and, what is very important, emphasizes that religion itself, that is, the cult of God, is what counts. This battle is often critical of particular teachings, and traditional tenets do not always win over the simple cult to God. Particular teachings become "accessories" to the act of religion.
