WILPF envisions a world free of violence, poverty, pollution and domination, a genuine new world order of peace and justice
WILPF has been working since 1915 to unite women worldwide who oppose oppression and exploitation. WILPF stands for equality of all people in a world free of racism, sexism and homophobia; the building of a constructive peace through world disarmament; and the changing of government priorities to meet human needs WILPF's work encompasses peace and justice issues at the local, national and international level.


Our Four Current Campaigns:

1. Uniting For Racial Justice: Truth, Reparations, Restoration,
and Reconciliation
2. Challenge Corporate Power, Asserting the People's Rights 3. Disarm! Dismantling the War Economy 4. Women and Cuba: Building a U.S. Women's Movement to Normalize Relations With Cuba -



Monterey County, California Branch of WILPF was formed about 1965 and came into being out of the concern of local women about the Vietnam War. Its members number about 150. They live in all the cities of the Peninsula and in Salinas and as far south as Soledad. While the preponderence of members are women, a number of men also belong. The current co-chairs are Katharina Harlow and Peggy Olsen. The information below is from a brochure which we give out to prospective members:
WILPF Women Stand For The equality of all people in a world free of sexism, racism, classism, homophobia and all other oppression. The transfer of U.S. resources from militarism to human needs. An end to all forms of violence: rape, battering, poverty, exploitation, intervention, and war. World disarmament and the peaceful resolution of international conflict through the United Nations Monterey County WILPF provides education for its members & the community on social & economic conditions needed for peace & on ways to bring peace at home & abroad through a monthly newsletter, PEACE WEAVERS, and through meetings with speakers and discussions among members.

Monterey County WILPF participates in community events.

Monterey County WILPF sponsors the MONTEREY COUNTY CLOTHESLINE PROJECT, a visual demonstration of violence against women occurring in our own community and an opportunity for aiding the healing of victims of that violence.

Monterey County WILPF works in coalition with other organizations: Peace Coalition of Monterey County, Reproductive Rights Coalition, Coalition of Minority Organizations, , and co-sponsors events with other groups such as UNA-USA, Physicians for Social Responsibility, Veterans for Peace.

WILPF does not endorse candidates nor political parties.
